College World Series
College World Series is a yearly affair to determine the college baseball champion. This is the final step of the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. The first College World Series was played in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1947, but since the year of 1950, the baseball College World Series is held at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska. This baseball tournament usually takes place during June each year.
The College World Series history in Omaha, Nebraska did not start very well at first. During the first 12 years from 1950 to 1961, the league only made money for 2 years, which was in 1952 and 1954. But nowadays, this event is more popular and the league has been seeing better profits.
The attendance of the College World Series is getting more and more each year. If you compare the number of people attending the game during the 2006 Junior College World Series, you will be surprised to see the difference. Watching this tournament with your friends would be a very interesting activity to do. And you can easily watch the tournament through ESPN. This popular sports channel started to cover the College World Series baseball tournament in 1980. It started with five games at first, but in 1982 onwards, TV audiences were able to watch the entire College World Series, except the championship games.
From ESPN, everybody can watch the 1995 College World Series, 2002 College World Series, 2005 College World Series, and so on. The TV channel could not broadcast the championship games during the first couple of years because the game format did not allow the tournament to have an exact date of the final. But the TV networks demanded to broadcast the championship as well. So NCAA College World Series changed the game from an eight-team, double-elimination championship to a two-division, eight-team tournament playing double elimination. Then the division winners would have a one-game championship playoff.
