Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals baseball team was originally the Montreal Expos. The team relocated in 2005 to Washington DC and was warmly welcomed even in the Washington Nationals spring training. The original team was created in 1969. The team was fairing quite well during the early 80’s however, when the 90’s came especially after the strike, the Expo’s were not able to rebound from the losses. Expos was put up for transfer and after careful selection, Washington was selected to be the new location of the team. The team was renamed Washington Nationals.

The move of the Washington Nationals baseball team was faced with controversy. At first, the move was opposed by the Baltimore Orioles since it will affect their ticket sales. However, considering the Washington Nationals’ MLB membership, the owner was assured support for his team in case ticket sales are being affected.

The current Washington Nationals stadium is a temporary park and the new park will be ready for the Washington Nationals schedule in 2008. There were concerns of the budget for the new stadium but the local government of Washington and the MLB has come to an agreement to address the problem. There were also concerns of the marketability of the game to the locals. However, the concern was immediately resolved by the attendance to the games. The attendance greatly surpassed the number of attendance when the team was still in Montreal.

The current performance of the team is slowed down by key injuries. Players like Washington Nationals Alex Escobar, an outfielder is currently out on 15 day mandatory rest for his injury. As of this writing, the team is last in their division with only .281 percentages of wins. However, due to the efforts of their marketing and promotions director Carleen Martin and Washington Nationals’ perseverance, the team is still loved by the community. Support by sales of Washington Nationals tickets is admirable and people tend to purchase memorabilia for the team like the Washington Nationals hats or the Washington Nationals beanie. Fans also faithfully follow the Washington Nationals baseball schedule to monitor the progress of the team.

The team logo for the Washington Nationals was presented to the public before the season started in 2005. The Washington Nationals logo imitates a ribbon. There is a name of Washington Nationals on top of a baseball with 9 stars below surrounding half of the baseball. The stars below the ball looks like a lock for the ribbon and the number of stars as presented by Mayor of DC, represents the number of players in the team in charge of defense.
