San Diego Padres
San Diego Padres baseball team was created in 1969 as the National League continue to increase its number of teams during those times. The name Padres is in honor of a minor league team of the Pacific Coast League in 1936.
The current San Diego Padres logo is the 6th design of the league since its conception. Originally, the logo was composed of a friar swinging a bat with the name of the team on the bottom. Currently, the official logo of the San Diego Padres is a baseball plate with Padres written on top with San Diego at the upper right corner of the plate and an interlocking letters of S and D for the cap.
Before the team became what it is now, there was a rumor of the team being transferred to Washington in 1974. Everyone believed in the rumors of the transfer so that souvenirs were also created with the name Washington on them. Even San Diego Padres pictures on baseball cards already have the new name. But it was scrapped when the new owner decided to let go of the idea.
