Minor League Baseball
Officially created in September 5, 1901, Minor League Baseball was seen as rivals of the established Major League Baseball. The NA (short nickname for National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues) started out with a total of fourteen contesting leagues. The fourteen leagues have a total of 96 teams that started out in 1902. Baseball Minor League players were thought to work permanently for the Minor League baseball teams. The Major League hawked the Minor League for great players and players were naturally attracted to the offer because of the minimal Minor League baseball salaries.
The baseball history of Minor League would continue through the years of expansion. However, they also had some shares of concerns especially in 1943. This year, which is also the World War II, there were only 66 teams. No more than 6 million aficionados came to watch the ballgame. Things changed for the good after the war when stability was reestablished and people came in to flock and enjoy the game once again. The fan support culminated in 1949. Based on the Minor League baseball archive, that year the league has 59 leagues with 448 teams. Besides that, the crowds that followed the teams to the ballparks totaled 39,640,433 which was a record for almost fifty four years.
Minor League baseball history during the 30s is again changed for the good when the Major league stepped in. Branch Rickey, manager of the St. Louise Cardinals, decided to create a farm club. The Major League will sponsor a Minor League team where the need for looking at other places to replace certain players will no longer be a problem. One of the latest advancement in the Minor League was when the 1998 Minor League baseball expansion happened. Before the rearrangement, there were three triple A (the best minor league teams) championships. After the change it was narrowed down to two. This led to the creation of a World Series for the minors. A 10 year program for the umpires was also created to assist those who aspire to be an umpire for the Major League.
