National League Baseball
National League Baseball players play in what is known to some as the "senior circuit". Their opposing league is the American League or the "junior circuit". The names of the two leagues suggest that one is "superior", however, the results show that the American League has more victories over the National League.
National League Baseball presidents have changed very noticeably every few years since the division started in 1987. The majority of the presidents have a history with professional baseball either as former players or non-player positions. Since 1999, the position of president was abolished. Now, the honorary president is unofficially Bill Giles. He is the son of former president Warren C. Giles who served from 1951 until 1969.
1994 was the only year since the beginning of the National League Championship Series that no winner was chosen. This was in direct relation to the player strike that was going on at the time. The Colorado Rockies are one National League Baseball team that has never played in the NLCS. Brewers have also not played but they were a former member of the American League where they did compete in the ALCS. Cities that comprised the original National League Baseball teams were: Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Hartford, Louisville, New York, and St. Louis. Obviously a lot of teams have been added to today's league compared to the original eight National League Baseball teams.
Current National League Baseball teams are divided into three areas. National League East consists of Atlanta Braves, Florida Marlins, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, and the Washington Nationals. Central teams are the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals, and Pittsburgh Pirates. In the National League West are the Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres, And the San Francisco Giants.
Through the season, National League Baseball scores will determine who in the league will meet with a team from the American League to compete for the World Series title of the year. Over the progression of time, the appearances of National League Baseball logos have undergone changes to improve the quality of the images representing teams. Fan web sites can be found on the Internet that display a comparison of all logos used in the past and present.
