Father of baseball refers to the person who founded and started the game of baseball. However, identifying Father Baseball can be rather difficult as the history of the baseball is recorded by different sources. The evidences in history cannot pinpoint who the real father of baseball is. And because of this, there is yet to be an official baseball father.

Many regarded Abner Doubleday as the “Father of Baseball”, but this assumption is still questionable until today. Some people say that the game that Doubleday evidently started was just a simple game of stick-and-ball which was very similar to the “rounders” of Ireland and “cricket” of England. It was believed that the game was created by Doubleday in the year 1839, and the game was initially played in a rural town of Cooperstown in New York. However, Doubleday never claimed that he influenced the game of baseball into conception.

Another man who may qualify as the father of baseball is Al Spalding, who was one of the foremost pitchers in the professional baseball league during those years. But later, he left the game of baseball to become a sporting goods manufacturer. Thereafter, in the year 1907, Spalding decided to form a panel of baseball experts which included himself, two former presidents of the National League, two former stars of the game and two U.S. Senators.

Well, there is one man who fits best the role of the father of organized baseball, and he is Alexander Cartwright. His contributions to the game of baseball were very remarkable, and he was responsible for introducing baseball to various states in America and other parts of the world. Cartwright was the man who introduced the sport of baseball to people in a more organized way, with the complete mechanisms and rules of the games all laid out in a systematic and comprehensive manner. In honor of his tremendous contributions in the history of baseball, the first baseball diamond field in Hawaii was named after him. In terms of laying the foundation for the game and contributing to its overall popularity, Cartwright is the rightful father of baseball.

Apparently, Jackie Robinson is regarded as the father of black baseball by the Negro Baseball League. This is because of his great achievements in the field of baseball which opened the way for black people to participate in Major League Baseball.
